Bina Maseno: A Trailblazer in arousing and nurturing the political consciousness and engagement of young women in ‘chamas’ and institutions of higher learning

Bina Maseno is a communications specialist and politician who is making waves in the Kenyan political scene. With a passion for bridging the gap between beauty and civic dialogues, she has become a leading voice for political awareness and involvement among the young women in Kenya.

As the founder and Executive Director of Badili Africa, Bina has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at empowering young women, particularly the often disengaged and disinterested ‘Chama’ women and those in institutions of higher learning and increasing their representation in politics. Her work has earned her numerous accolades and invitations to global discussions, including the Obama Africa Leaders Program and the Bill and Melinda Gates Goalkeepers event in New York.

Bina’s journey in Ms President began as part of the Mwamko Mpya Party, where she worked her way up through group and individual assignments and won individual commendations along the way.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Bina has remained steadfast in her mission to create a more inclusive and democratic Kenya.

Bina was crowned the 1st runners-up of the Ms President season 2 competition, a landmark program aimed at increasing women’s political representation and participation in Kenya. As the first runners up, Bina will receive USD 15,000 to invest in a project of her choice for the empowerment of her community.

Bina’s commitment to improving the lives of women in Kenya has not gone unnoticed. Her tireless efforts and unwavering dedication have earned her the respect and admiration of many, and she continues to inspire women everywhere to take an active role in shaping their communities and their countries.

Bina Maseno is a true leader and a shining example of what can be achieved when passion and purpose are combined. Her work continues to make lasting impact on the Kenyan political landscape and will continue to inspire future generations of women leaders.

Reflecting on our mission to empower the next generation of leaders in fostering a vibrant democracy! At Media Focus on Africa, we've been tirelessly engaging and educating young minds on their civic rights and responsibilities.

Through a series of workshops, dialogues, and advocacy initiatives, we've been instrumental in shaping informed and active citizens who are ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

We just concluded trainings on the same in Arua, Jinja, Hoima and Kampala, covering four regions of the country Uganda. Participants were empowered with various skills ranging from social media advocacy, fighting disinformation, debunking fake News and so many others

Our commitment to youth empowerment extends beyond mere education; it's about nurturing a generation that understands the importance of democratic participation and actively seeks to uphold its principles.

Through our dedicated efforts in skilling women journalists and advocating for the integration of a gender lens in storytelling, we're not just challenging stereotypes – we're reshaping narratives. Our trainings go beyond the technicalities of journalism; they instill empathy, promote understanding, and foster inclusivity.

By equipping journalists with the tools to view stories through a gender lens, we're amplifying voices that have long been marginalized. We're creating a media landscape where every perspective is acknowledged, every experience is valued, and every story is told authentically.
