About Media Focus on Africa (MFA)

Media Focus on Africa (MFA)  Uganda is a communication for development organisation in Uganda. It is founded  on the premise that improved flows of quality information among people living in Africa would build societies that are better informed on priority issues of democratisation and human development.
Therefore MFA’s mission is: to stimulate social change and development in Africa through the media to reach a democratic Africa and the vision “A democratic Africa, whose citizens are well-informed and are empowered to participate in development processes.” Values of MFA are diversity, inclusiveness, integrity, non-partisanship and responsiveness. In Uganda, MFA works with journalists, civil society organizations and public institutions to strengthen media ecosystems, promote accountability, and enhance citizen engagement- through capacity building and  various media development and communication strategies that advance social change. 

Position Summary

Media Focus on Africa – Uganda is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and highly motivated Media Project Officer to support the implementation of media and communication projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in journalism, media development or strategic communication and a demonstrated ability to manage project activities in a fast-paced  impact-driven environment. This role is particularly suited for a young  professional who understands the Ugandan media landscape, digital communication trends and the intersection between media governance, and civic engagement- who wishes to grow their career further in media development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planning and Co-ordination: Support the planning and implementation of media and communication projects.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Work closely with MFA stakeholders in Media, Civil Society and other entities  to deliver project outputs.
  •  Support for research and development of innovative media projects by the organisation
  • Support to communication, documentation and visibility  initiatives by the organisation

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Development Communication or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in media, communication or development projects.
  • Strong understanding of Uganda’s media and digital communication landscape.
  • Experience working with journalists, CSOs, or media development programs is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated skills in content creation (writing, multimedia storytelling or digital content)
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Desired Competencies

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Passion for media development, accountability and civic engagement.
  • Basic knowledge of monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) frameworks is an asset
