Media Internship Summit 2026: Are You Internship Ready?

Edward Tumwine May 29, 2026

On 29th May 2026, Media Focus on Africa is hosting the Internship Ready Summit on X Spaces, a dynamic two‑hour conversation designed to prepare journalism and communication students for the realities of professional internships.

This summit is part of the Annual Virtual Internship Program, an initiative that bridges the gap between academic training and industry practice. The interactive session brings together students, educators, and seasoned media professionals to share insights, strategies, and candid experiences that help young journalists thrive in newsroom and agency environments.

Insights from Industry Leaders

The panel features four distinguished voices:

  • Felix Eupal will highlight punctuality, adaptability, and wellness strategies for interns entering fast‑paced communications agencies.
  • Dr. JB Imokola will discuss professional etiquette, teamwork, and how universities can better prepare students for internships.
  • Irene Abalo will address newsroom expectations and gender‑specific challenges, encouraging resilience and persistence.
  • Antonio Kisembo will share journalism best practices, stressing curiosity, documentation, and the dos and don’ts of internship success.
  • Interactive and PracticalThe program includes two rounds of panel discussions, followed by an open Q&A where students can share experiences and receive tailored advice. The closing segment will focus on maximizing internship outcomes, urging participants to produce tangible outputs—articles, reports, or digital content that showcase their skills and set the stage for career growth.

    Strengthening Academia–Industry Linkages

By hosting this summit, Media Focus on Africa reinforces its commitment to building resilient media ecosystems and most importantly to bring about social change. The initiative brings collaboration between universities and practitioners, ensuring that students are not only internship ready but also equipped to lead in shaping Africa’s media future.

As the conversation unfolds live on X Spaces, participants will gain clarity, confidence, and actionable strategies to make their internships a professional success.
